The month of May recognizes several observances:
May is OEDC Farmers Market LITERACY month. Each Friday in the month of May we will be giving away books for young people of all ages. Stop by the Farmers Market and get a book for a young person and help them celebrate Reading is FUN week and Get caught READING month. Charles Drew Medical Center will join us at the Farmers Market with health information as an observance of Family Wellness month. A Salute to National Barbeque month will cause a celebration in your mouth when you taste the culinary samplings of TLC Downhome Cooking, a vendor at the Farmers Market.
OEDC supports and promotes small business at the Farmers Market. We salute our vendors during National Small Business Week.
Our Farmers: Farmer John and Page’s Country Store will fulfill your needs for Gifts from the Garden month with both vegetable and flowering plants ready to plant in your personal garden.
Our live music will be provided by Saxophonist Donald Harris. Our market days will always be filled with music thanks to Eliga Ali. Support the OEDC | Fair Deal Village MarketPlace Farmers Market that is being held in the parking lot of OEDC, 2221 North 24 Street, every Friday, rain or shine 4:00PM-7:00PM.
In the coming months we will celebrate science and food in the Farmers Market, cooking demonstrations, and back to school from the Farmers Market. Get your favorite pie or cobbler recipe ready for our pie/cobbler bake off contest in July. The Farmers Market is an introduction to purchasing fresh produce in what was once a food desert. In the North Omaha Community. The Farmers Market is made possible by the Administration for Children and Families – Community Economic Development Healthy Food Financing Initiative Project.
