Picture this: fresh produce, artisan tables, business canopies, food trucks, and customers everywhere…. Save the dates every Friday starting April 8, 2016, through September 9, 2016, for a farmers market hosted by the Fair Deal Village MarketPlace (FDVMP). The farmers market is scheduled for 4:00 PM-7:00 PM in the parking lot of the Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) at 2221 North 24th Street. This is a rain or shine event.
Why a farmers market? It stimulates the local economy. It increases access to fresh, nutritious, and locally grown food. It supports local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs. The farmers market is the first component of the FDVMP, an OEDC project designed to reinvigorate the economy by driving commerce within the community. By bringing vendors and customers together to support both the financial and physical health of the community, the farmers market represents a win win for all concerned.
As a good neighbor and a destination in the community, the FDVMP will bring attention to other activities along the entertainment and art corridor of North 24th Street. Shopping, eating, and listening to live music is a great way to connect the community and a great way to start the weekend. After shopping at the farmers market, patrons and visitors can stroll along 24th Street to enjoy the cultural points of interest and the offerings of local art and entertainment venues.
The farmers market is accessible by public transportation. Located within a ten-mile radius of the farmers market are: Creighton University, CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha Public Schools Teacher Administrative Center, The Learning Community Center of North Omaha, multiple churches and schools, and various businesses. What an opportunity for Omaha.
OEDC is a 501(c)(3) organization that continues to improve opportunities through projects for the people.
