Established in 1977 as a Nebraska 501 (c)(3) non-profit Community Development Corporation, the Omaha Economic Development Corporation (OEDC) focuses on leveraging resources to achieve positive changes that contribute to the social and economic success of residents, neighborhoods, and businesses in North Omaha.
The mission of OEDC is to identify and implement economic development and community revitalization projects that result in the creation of diverse housing options, commercial spaces, jobs, training, and business ownership opportunities.
Our North Omaha community is characterized by poverty and the complexity of related issues. But it is a community undergoing positive and sustainable transformation. Through OEDC’s active involvement in collaborative initiatives, progress has been made to strengthen the social, physical, and economic landscape in our service area. Never working in isolation, we partner with community organizations, non-profits, city government, private entities, and others. We foster new job creation and income growth for residents.
We invest in people and projects. Our goals are to:
▪ Provide a greater diversity of housing choices, including market-rate and mixed-use options, for area residents;
▪ Drive overall community economic growth opportunities through asset-building strategies for OEDC, residents, and business owners
The organization owns or has invested in various business ventures and serves as the developer for its own commercial and residential projects. Oversight is provided by an independent Board of Directors.
The Omaha Economic Development Corporation is the only federally designated Community Development Corporation in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as a federally recognized Community Economic Developer.
